The 24 Hour Dr. Horrible Costume

First off, don’t be an idiot like me and decide to make the costume at the last possible second. While I ordered the boots, gloves and goggles a few weeks before, I didn’t actually decide to make the costume for the convention I was going until the day before.

So…

Medic - Team Fortress 2

Medic

Name: Medic
Series: Team Fortress 2
Debuted: Otakon 2008
Status: Active

Notes

The coat is just the muslin for the final coat which will be made out of a heavier wool. I just figured that I didn’t want to die of heat exhaustion in the Baltimore heat.

White Mage - Final Fantasy

White Mage

Name: White Mage
Series: Final Fantasy
Debuted: Setsucon 2007
Status: Retired

Notes

Okay, this isn’t actually MY costume. My mother made this for and wore to Setsucon 2007. That shiney ribbon in the first picture is a second place ribbon. Because my mom is awesome.

Scout - Team Fortress 2

Scout

Name: Scout
Series: Team Fortress 2
Debuted: Katsucon 2008
Status: Active

Notes

This is ghetto cosplay at it’s finest, but a hell of a lot of fun to wear.

Rock Lee - Lolita

Rock Lolita

Name: Rock Lolita
Series: Naruto (original)
Debuted: Tekkoshocon 2007
Status: Active

Notes

Since Rock Lee can’t do Jutsu, I tied to think of what he would do if he wanted to pretend to do the Sexy-no-Jutsu.

This was made in a spur of the moment decision. I literally sewed it together in the car on the way to the convention.

My favorite part of this costume is watching people’s eyes twitching once they figure out what I’m supposed to be.

Rock Lee - Naruto

Rock Lee

Name: Rock Lee
Series: Naruto
Debuted: Anime Next 2005
Status: Active

Notes

I love this costume. It’s by far the most comfortable to wear and almost everyone likes it.

The Gai-sensei with me is my husband, Gerry. He was a good sport and made his costume by himself. I only got him to wear it once, because he hated all the attention we were getting.

Princess Sailormoon

Princess Sailor Moon

Name: Princess Sailor Moon
Series: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
Debuted: Anime Mid-Atlantic 2006
Status: Retired

Notes

This costume was a beast to make. First off, making a Sailor Moon wig is a hell of a lot of work. If you ever wondered why commissioners charge $200 a pop, that’s why. Secondly, there’s a ridiculous amount of pearls that had to be hand-sewn on. Finally, I had to search through 4 state’s worth of JoAnn’s to get enough of the trim I needed.

Despite all that work, this was one of my favorite costumes to wear. It was very elegant and didn’t make me sweat to death like the rest of my pleather ensembles. I’d like to do another sailor senshi once I get finished with my commissions.

Nephrite - PGSM

Nephrite

Name: Nephrite
Series: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
Debuted: Katsucon 2006
Status: Retired

Notes

This costume died. Twice. I came home from Katsucon only to discover that the tissue thin pleather I had been using tore right down the seam on my butt. Luckily the jacket covered it.

It was completely remade for Anime North 2006. This time, the heat and sun actually warped the pleather so much that the costume no longer closes correctly. I give up.

Kunzite - PGSM

Kunzite

Name: Kunzite
Series: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
Debuted: Anime North 2006
Status: Being Repaired

Notes

This costume is HOT to wear, since it’s pleather and it has that heavy cape. Diastelo pretty much fainted in the middle of the dealer’s room at AN.

This costume was made in conjunction with the remake of Nephrite… all in one week! The hardest part was all the detail on the sleeves, which you can’t see unless I’ve got my arms up.

As stated above, the costume was originally made for Diastelo to wear, but it has been kidnapped for me since Nephrite has been retired. I am currently fixing the shoulder armor (which kind of sucked.)

Frost - Mortal Kombat

Frost

Name: Frost
Series: Mortal Kombat
Debuted: Otakon 2004
Status: Active

Notes

Poor Frost has been a work in progress for over three years now. I’m never quite satisfied with her construction, but at least it means that everytime I wear her there’s some improvement.

Her mask is made of Crayola Model Magic. To get the “invisible” attachement, the band that goes around the back of the head is actually a clear bra strap.
